Bathroom Floor Tiles

There is still plenty of time before I have to decide on the bathroom floor tiles, and I mentioned a couple of candidates on the post here. But one thing I am certain about is using small format tiles, not just because they look good but smaller tiles are better for drainage purposes. It's hard to get a good fall to the floor/shower waste using large tiles.

I think this little green number from Regeneration Tiles is great for a retro look. They are an unglazed porcelain tile, apparently wear really well, and are non-slip. They come in a wide range of colours and are a nice way to inject some colour into the bathroom.

These little mosaics are kind of cute too.

What about these black penny rounds? These would add some drama to a plain white bathroom.

Or then there's the white or marble mosaics in a brick pattern.

As for the grout colour - our architect has specified a grey/charcoal coloured grout. From a design perspective, the make the subway tiles pop, but it also happens to be a very practical idea as well. White grout always gets grungy looking over time (even if you are the type who likes to clean the bathroom every second day). Using a dark coloured grout will ensure your bathroom never looks dirty - even if it is! Luckily our bathrooms will be infused with heaps of natural light and have good ventilation, so mould shouldn't be a problem. Yep, definitely going with the charcoal grout on both the floors and walls.

  1. Those little green tiles are my kind of colour- same as my kitchen pendants. Did you see the last bathroom on the block? They used those white penny rounds over the entire walls and it looked amazing. I have grout issues and totally agree with the darker grey grout. We (insanely pre children) chose white floor tiles in our last bathroom but used a grey grout and they looked fine years on. We had mosaics around the bath and never had issues with mould but it did not get really wet- that would be my only concern with small tiles but it sounds like you have that covered. Reminds me, I probably should put some pics up of our last reno...... melx

  2. You definitely have a good eye for tile designs! All these patterns are amazing and would surely look good on your bathroom. But the winner for me is the black penny round tile design. This tile design would definitely give your bathroom an interesting color contrast and a dramatic depth.

  3. I've been planning white subway tiles and white penny rounds for laundry and bathrooms (white subway splashbacks in kitchen as well) - however I am very struck by those mosaic mini-bricks above - might have to do some rethinking....My only concern is that since my laundry is pretty small having small tile on the floor might make it appear smaller and that I should be using bigger tiles

    1. Nice choice - I do think that small format floor tiles look better with subway tiles and I think they are a nicer option for our Queenslander houses. I personally don't think they will make your rooms look smaller. xx
